Last weekend my assistants and I attended Dr. Ryan Swain’s 6 Month Smiles course.
We left with a ton of great information and training. Dr. Swain’s concepts of using short term orthodontics to help noninvasively improve a patients smile are very interesting.
I believe this is a great alternative to Invisalign treatment with the potential to not only minimize the time a patient is in braces, but also to be able to achieve more ideal results than Invisalign or other removable orthodontic therapies can provide.
We are very excited about the potential of this technique, especially when combining it with a “no-prep” veneer treatment. We envision the ability to create some dramatic cosmetic changes without the need to prepare teeth!

I spent the last week of April at the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s annual scientific convention. I believe this was my 14th meeting in a row. As always, it was a great week of learning and catching up with old friends.
I was also very busy this week as I had 3 presentations during the course of the meeting. The Academy asked me to give a presentation on Elective, Cosmetic Dentistry for Young Adults and Adolescents. This is one of my favorite presentations. As so many young people now want to maximize the appearance of their smiles I believe it is important to do so in a conservative manner. Additionally, I did a workshop to help other dentists learn the many different ways to prepare teeth for porcelain veneers. Lastly, I had a presented a program discussing a new composite (tooth-colored filling material) that has some unique properties and interesting potential. Interestingly enough this material is produced by a Colorado company, Septodont!
Then, when I wasn’t learning or teaching I sat in some review courses to prepare me for my upcoming pursuit of obtaining my Accreditation in the AACD. So looks like I’ll be taking even more photographs in the office over the next few years!
The AACD meeting is always a great learning and sharing experience from me and a wonderful place for any dentist to learn what is on the cutting edge of cosmetic dentistry. For patients it is a great information resource. Patients can go to www.aacd.com and find many answers to their questions regarding cosmetic dentistry.

Just returned from doing a lecture for the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics.
Had a fun discussion with the attendees of the meeting, many of which are well accomplished cosmetic dentists. I presented my new ideas on No-prep veneers, discussed Lumineers and Durathin veneers. I enjoyed having a chance to share my veneer cases and showing what we’ve been able to do with our patients, but also learned some interesting tips from the attendees as well.
It is becoming very obvious to me that the No-Prep idea for veneers is gaining alot of intereste amongst dentists and their patients. Certainly we can thank the folks at Lumineers for creating the awareness, but now it’s nice to see there are other options available as well.
Anyone interested in seeing some no-prep cases can go to our website (www.radzdds.com) and in our before and after photo section you can see several examples of our work with this concept.
Was a fun meeting with a great group of general dentist with alot of cosmetic dental experience.
