Previously, adult patients with healthy, yet crooked teeth have only had two options for correcting their cosmetic concerns: traditional orthodontic treatment or porcelain veneers. Most prefer not to have braces for two or more years or dislike the appearance of metal brackets, and many of these patients are not good candidates for veneers because of the misalignment of their teeth. This can be a very challenging and frustrating problem to overcome. However, with short-term orthodontic treatment we can provide a conservative, inexpensive, and highly effective solution for our patients.
Short-term orthodontics utilizes clear brackets and tooth colored wires, eliminating the unsightly appearance of most braces, and treatment is usually completed within 6-8 months. The focus of this treatment is only on the teeth that show when patients speak or smile, not changing the bite relationship. This approach has been used successfully for several years and the results are amazing.
Dr. Radz and his team have completed the Six Month Smiles short-term orthodontic course. For more information, go to www.6monthsmiles.com.

Last week our patient Renee Herlocker won the 2009 Spike TV Host award. It was great to see her on national TV! We are all very proud of her.
Wish we could take some credit for it, as we did do some minor cosmetic dentistry with a couple of no prep veneers to enhance her smile! However, the reality is she won it all on her own.
Interestingly enough, I found the other day that 5280 had picked up on Renee’s accomplishment and added it to their blog.
Last weekend my assistants and I attended Dr. Ryan Swain’s 6 Month Smiles course.
We left with a ton of great information and training. Dr. Swain’s concepts of using short term orthodontics to help noninvasively improve a patients smile are very interesting.
I believe this is a great alternative to Invisalign treatment with the potential to not only minimize the time a patient is in braces, but also to be able to achieve more ideal results than Invisalign or other removable orthodontic therapies can provide.
We are very excited about the potential of this technique, especially when combining it with a “no-prep” veneer treatment. We envision the ability to create some dramatic cosmetic changes without the need to prepare teeth!

I spent the last week of April at the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry’s annual scientific convention. I believe this was my 14th meeting in a row. As always, it was a great week of learning and catching up with old friends.
I was also very busy this week as I had 3 presentations during the course of the meeting. The Academy asked me to give a presentation on Elective, Cosmetic Dentistry for Young Adults and Adolescents. This is one of my favorite presentations. As so many young people now want to maximize the appearance of their smiles I believe it is important to do so in a conservative manner. Additionally, I did a workshop to help other dentists learn the many different ways to prepare teeth for porcelain veneers. Lastly, I had a presented a program discussing a new composite (tooth-colored filling material) that has some unique properties and interesting potential. Interestingly enough this material is produced by a Colorado company, Septodont!
Then, when I wasn’t learning or teaching I sat in some review courses to prepare me for my upcoming pursuit of obtaining my Accreditation in the AACD. So looks like I’ll be taking even more photographs in the office over the next few years!
The AACD meeting is always a great learning and sharing experience from me and a wonderful place for any dentist to learn what is on the cutting edge of cosmetic dentistry. For patients it is a great information resource. Patients can go to www.aacd.com and find many answers to their questions regarding cosmetic dentistry.

I just received in the mail today the April issue of Oral Health…and two of our veneer patients are on the cover.
A year ago we did porcelain veneers on Annette and Renee. Our results were so nice that I submitted an article and a photo to this dental journal. I was really excited when the editor called in the fall and accepted the article and the photos.
Both of the patients were treated with Venus veneers. This porcelain allows for us to place veneers on teeth without removing any of the natural tooth. It is a similar process to Lumineers , just using a different porcelain and a different lab.
Next time you are in the office you will see the cover of the journal on our wall as well as a copy of the journal.

Hard to believe it actually happened!!! On Monday we opened our new office for business. The speed in which this all came together was incredible. In basically 90 days we went from demo to open for business. Given the detail that is involved with building a dental office this was an impressive feat.
I give tons of credit to my contractor, Mendel Construction, and the guys at Joe Architect. Their hard work made all of this happen.
Our new downtown dental practice still needs a few final touches as we wait for a few backordered items, but even in it’s “not quite finished” state it’s a wonderful place to work and a much more patient-friendly design.
We look forward to sharing our new dental office with our friends, patients, and patient/friends. Please stop by and say hi next time your in downtown Denver.

Just was up looking at the progress of our new downtown dental office. We are making great progress and look like we will open on time as scheduled.
Tonight they are laying down the tile and finishing the painting.
One of the exciting features we have built into our office is a private, quiet room for our patients to relax. I designed a “ZEN room” which will have a big, cushy chair and relaxing music design to allow a patient to be able to have a few quiet moments alone if they arrive early or to take a break during a long procedure.
It’s just one of the many things we are doing to make our patients experience even better.

Construction on our new downtown dental office is actually 1 day ahead of schedule!!! I was just up there today with our contractor. The dry wall is all up and the ceilings are starting to be installed.
All is proceding well to have us up and running and providing dental care one the first Monday in January!
Denver’s newest and highest (maybe….have to check on that one!) dental practice looks to be well on it’s way to being ready for the New Year.
We look forward to having a most esthetically pleasing place to provide our cosmetic dentistry. And to have a more comfortable place for our general dentistry patients.
More updates soon,

Just returned from doing a lecture for the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics.
Had a fun discussion with the attendees of the meeting, many of which are well accomplished cosmetic dentists. I presented my new ideas on No-prep veneers, discussed Lumineers and Durathin veneers. I enjoyed having a chance to share my veneer cases and showing what we’ve been able to do with our patients, but also learned some interesting tips from the attendees as well.
It is becoming very obvious to me that the No-Prep idea for veneers is gaining alot of intereste amongst dentists and their patients. Certainly we can thank the folks at Lumineers for creating the awareness, but now it’s nice to see there are other options available as well.
Anyone interested in seeing some no-prep cases can go to our website (www.radzdds.com) and in our before and after photo section you can see several examples of our work with this concept.
Was a fun meeting with a great group of general dentist with alot of cosmetic dental experience.

Yesterday I had the first meeting with the “team”.
Standing in a big empty space on the 13th floor all the primary players in the building of our new office. It’s both exciting and stressful!
I believe I’ve got a great group put together. Everyone shares my vision of the final result.
Demo on the space begins on Monday!!!
